Steam Turbine Casing, 45 t

Special Casting specializes in the market segments of gas and steam turbines, wind power, engines and general machine construction.

The parts consist of cast iron with spheroidal or nodular graphite, also known as nodular or ductile cast iron.

The standard denominations are: EN-GJS-400-15, ENGJS-400-18LT, EN-GJS-500-7, EN-GJS-600-3, ENGJS-700-2. SiMo and Mo alloys are also included.

The maximum dimensions are 7 x 6 x 4 meters. Appropriate annealing furnaces are available for heat treatment.

Ductile cast iron competes with cast steel. Ductile cast iron is easier to cast and more economical to produce as cast steel. The mechanical properties are similar to those of steel. This means that strengths from 400 to 700 N/mm2 can be achieved at elongation rates of 18 to 3 percent depending on the type of material (EN GJS 400 to EN GJS 700 are common types). The processing as well as damping characteristics for vibratory stress are superior to cast steel thanks to the structure of the embedded free graphite.
